Familial support is necessary for human survival. And for LGBTQIA+ teens navigating self-acceptance, that need is even more critical. For those managing difficult relationships with families as a result of sharing their complete self with the world, chosen families play an important role.
A chosen, or found family, as defined by Point of Pride, is “the people you intentionally choose to love, support, and show up for, regardless of biology or legal paperwork. These are the friends, mentors, partners, and community members who feel like home.”
Jahnie Turner, Nandini Kirwin and Gabrielle Hayden spoke with young voices who share why these families are central to queer existence, in this episode of Proof and Prejudice.
